How a simple invitation became a home for six hundred women.
The Ripple Room started in January 2026 with a simple belief: making friends as an adult is hard, and a lot of what gets called community is really networking in disguise. I wanted something warmer, where the only thing asked of you is to show up. Women arrive alone and leave connected, and I've watched it happen again and again.
I'm Adele, the founder. After years of working in international development and living in different countries, I moved from Toronto to Vancouver and found myself starting over once again. I was looking for a place to call home, a community of my own and people who would accept me for who I am, without judgment. Like many people starting fresh in a new city, I experienced loneliness and realized how much meaningful connection matters. Sometimes, all I wanted was someone to watch the sunset with or to take a walk and talk.
So I started right where I lived, in my neighbourhood. I was new to Vancouver and didn't drive, but I could walk, explore and invite others to come along. That's how the first gatherings began.
What I learned is that belonging is built through small, repeated moments. A coffee. A walk. Making something together. A good conversation where you learn something from someone else. That's how we built the room, and that's the ripple effect in real life: one woman connecting with another, and each connection reaching further.
Today, more than 600 women are part of The Ripple Room, and every one of them began as a single ripple.
Before there was a room, there was a blog. In 2019 I started The Ripple Effect, a place to share the stories of social impact leaders, founders and CEOs who were inspiring real change. I loved those conversations, but I kept wondering how to make that kind of inspiration tangible, something people could step into instead of only reading about.
Years later I moved to Vancouver and learned what it feels like to start over in a new city. That was when the idea came back to me. I wanted to take the ripple off the screen and into a room, where people could meet face to face, share a coffee and learn from each other.
So The Ripple Room was born.
We are a Vancouver women's community, and more than thirty gatherings in, the room has filled with women of all ages and backgrounds from the West End and across the Lower Mainland. Some are new to the city. Some want to widen their circle. Some are simply craving a little more connection.
There is no agenda here, no expectation to network and no need to know anyone beforehand. You do not have to be outgoing, or have a particular interest or job title. Just show up as you are.
Together we have shared cafe chats, walks, workshops, book swaps, sunset hangs and community gatherings. The events change, but the feeling stays the same. You arrive not knowing many people, and you leave knowing a few more than you did.
Behind every gathering is time, energy and a lot of heart. One person can start a ripple, but it takes a community to keep it moving.
Everyone who shows up, brings a friend, supports a local gathering or makes someone feel welcome becomes part of this story. A community is built by everyone who chooses to be part of it, and I think the best ripples are still ahead of us.
One room. Many connections. One ripple at a time.
Connection, well-being, creativity and growth. Each pillar shapes our programs, and every one is low pressure, easy to join and friendly to people who arrive alone. See them all on the programs page.
To create welcoming spaces where Vancouver women can build meaningful friendships, explore their creativity and find a sense of belonging through shared experiences and genuine connection.
A Vancouver where every woman can find real friendship, make space for creativity and grow together, where one ripple of connection creates waves for all of us.
Join us at an upcoming gathering and see who you meet.
